        <data alias="Content">&lt;p style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; line-height: 150%" class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span class="intro"&gt;Leading paint manufacturer Johnstone&amp;rsquo;s has been specified for use in the redecoration of one of the world&amp;rsquo;s most famous sporting venues - Cardiff&amp;rsquo;s Millennium Stadium.&lt;/span&gt; &lt;/p&gt;&amp;nbsp; &lt;p style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; line-height: 150%" class="MsoNormal"&gt;Selected to host at least eight football matches during the London 2012 Olympics, the Millennium Stadium is currently undergoing a major refurbishment programme and Johnstone&amp;rsquo;s is working alongside the Cardiff branch of national decorating contractors Alfred Bagnall &amp;amp; Sons (South Wales) to complete the redecoration of the landmark venue.&lt;/p&gt;&amp;nbsp; &lt;p style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; line-height: 150%" class="MsoNormal"&gt;The extensive contract includes the redecoration of the stadium&amp;rsquo;s internal walls and floors, including yellow safety paint for all the steps within the stadium. Microbarr, Johnstone&amp;rsquo;s innovative new anti-bacterial coating has been selected for use in the stadium&amp;rsquo;s twelve medical centres and various other products from the Johnstone&amp;rsquo;s Performance Coatings range have been specified.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; line-height: 150%" class="MsoNormal"&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Angie Nock, Branch Manager from Alfred Bagnall &amp;amp; Sons (South Wales) Ltd, comments: &amp;ldquo;The Millennium Stadium is one of the country&amp;rsquo;s most prestigious sporting venues and in the run up to the Olympics, it has never been more important that the quality of its internal and external decoration is of the highest standard.&amp;nbsp; As this is a major contract for us, it was vital that we selected a paint supplier that could rise to the challenge and Johnstone&amp;rsquo;s range of products and support services made them the ideal choice.&amp;rdquo;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Gary Inness, Johnstone&amp;rsquo;s Specification Development Manager adds: &amp;ldquo;Johnstone&amp;rsquo;s won this contract not only for its fantastic products but for the extra support services offered by its technical and sales teams.         <data alias="Content">&lt;p class="intro"&gt;Johnstone’s high grade paints were specified by a decorating contractor and architect to create a top class learning environment for girls in Manchester.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Wolverhampton based decorator, R E Martin Limited and Aedas Architects based in Manchester worked to a tight deadline to complete a state-of-the art new teaching facility for the Bies Yaakov School for girls on time.&lt;br /&gt;The project was so successful that it was nominated for the commercial category in the Johnstone’s Painter of the Year 2006 competition.&lt;br /&gt;Emmet Martin, of R E Martin Limited was delighted with the end result, &lt;br /&gt;“The specification process was an easy one on this development. Johnstone’s was personally recommended by myself and put forward to the school as an alternative to other paint manufacturers which were more expensive but by far no better on quality”. &lt;br /&gt;The firm worked swiftly in the short contractual period, applying some 1,600 litres of Johnstone’s paints to the internal and external wall surfaces. Along with other core items on the Johnstone’s product list R E Martin produced a modern and appealing environment for students to learn.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Johnstone’s Acrylic Eggshell in a variety of colours was applied to the walls in the classrooms, corridors and hallways.  The building’s architraves and skirting were coated with Johnstone’s Eggshell.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Peter Borkus, of Aedas Architects was thrilled to be involved with this project,&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;“Johnstone’s were recommended to the school and we were thoroughly pleased when they accepted the use of the products that R E Martin have worked with for years. We were all extremely satisfied with the quality of the finish that Johnstone’s paints have given this project.”&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Founded in 1957, the school is part of the Orthodox Jewish community of Manchester.  Beginning with just four pupils on its enrolment list back in 1957, today the school is flourishing.  The new state-of-the-art building is the result of 10 long years of planning, which included a successful application for Voluntary-Aided Status, which was granted in January 2005.  The High School caters for Orthodox Jewish Girls, and at present has almost 200 students. The syllabus combines Jewish Studies and National Curriculum subjects, and rates at the top of the league tables for Salford. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Clare Winter, Specification Marketing Manager at Johnstone’s, said: “R E Martin made such an impact on this project when they were brought on board. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;“The completion of this project was the result of hard work and professionalism together with their ability to work to tight deadlines.         <data alias="Content">&lt;p class="intro"&gt;An impressive garden centre which was controversially built in the middle of a conservation area has managed to enhance the natural surroundings thanks to its sympathetic design and meticulous paintwork.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Lintzford Garden Centre at Lintzford Bridge in Newcastle was built by landscape gardener George Vasey, of Vasey Contracts in Monkseaton.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The beautiful nearby countryside provides a dramatic backdrop for the gigantic timber lodge which is due to open its doors to the public in the next few weeks.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;George wanted the garden centre to compliment the picturesque landscape so he called upon the advice and expertise of Johnstone’s to come up with the perfect finish for both the exterior and interior of the building.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Senior Specification Consultant David Baines, from Johnstone’s Technical Advisory Department, spent considerable time on site closely inspecting the building and the surrounding environment before any decision was made on the most suitable products for the project.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;David provided a complete specification report based upon his observations on site. The specification included details of how the surfaces should be prepared, the recommended coatings to use, how they should be applied and in what specific conditions.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;David said: “Following my initial inspection of the site and my meeting with George, I established that it was crucial that the products and the colour scheme blended in with the countryside.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;“Much of the exterior was constructed from timber and we knew George was keen to keep it looking as natural as possible. We had to ensure that whichever product we chose would do this, whilst at the same time preserving and providing maximum protection for the timber. We therefore recommended using Woodworks Matt Woodstain.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;“The product has both enhanced the cosmetic appearance of the timber and also given added UV protection against fading,” he added.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;David said the Woodworks Matt Woodstain was a perfect choice for this project, as it provides an easy maintenance, protective, microporous finish.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The timber was pre-treated with Johnstone’s Woodworks Exterior Universal Primer.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Woodworks Opaque Finish, chosen by George was used around the windows and doors in both Forest Green and Ebony.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The structural steelwork inside the garden centre was one of the main features of the interior. Johnstone’s Performance Coatings Steel and Cladding System was used on the steelwork mixed on the New Johnstone’s 32K Colorant System to &lt;br /&gt;S 0502 Y50R to brighten up its appearance.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Johnstone’s Covaplus Emulsion was used on the interior blockwork and the internal timber was varnished with Johnstone’s Quick-Dry Polyurethane Varnish, which is now 40% more durable.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Commenting on the quality and professionalism of the brand, George said: “I have used Johnstone’s for over 20 years and knew the products and service would be perfect for this job.         <data alias="Content">&lt;p class="intro"&gt;Johnstone’s has established its’ first official Partnership Agreement with Manchester Housing to deliver the internal and external refurbishment of around 130 homes at Crescent Road in Manchester.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The Specification Team at Johnstone’s gave technical assistance and provided a paint specification for the scheme.  This proved to be such a success with residents and the client that Manchester Housing is now using the document as a city-wide specification.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;In June 2005 work began on consulting tenants regarding the formation of Northwards Housing, an Arms Length Management Organisation, which would manage over 13,000 homes.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;During the consultation period, six show homes were created to show tenants what improvements would be undertaken should they vote in favour of transferring to Northwards Housing.  The six show homes were decorated throughout with Johnstone’s.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The specification team at Johnstone’s visited each of the show homes and developed colour schemes and specifications for each of the properties and adapted the specification according to the type of dwelling.  The team produced colour schemes for the kitchen and bathroom areas along with a wallpaper book which was tailor made for the contract.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The option of using the Partnership Agreement with Johnstone’s came about as a result of the first contract which was carried out in Crescent Road by painting contractors Wilfred Lord based in Rochdale.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The first eight or nine houses at Crescent Road were painted with an Acrylic Gloss finish but then Johnstone’s launched their new AQUA Gloss and Manchester Housing agreed to do a trial on one of the houses with the AQUA product.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The residents were really pleased with the finish of the AQUA product so Johnstone’s agreed to change the specification in the initial stages of the project and the rest of the houses were then painted with AQUA Gloss.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The Partnership Agreement with Johnstone’s has allowed continuity in the schemes. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Gareth Jones, area sales representative for Johnstone’s, says the original specification for the properties at Crescent Road was carried out at the end of 2004 and the contract started in March 2005.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;“This contract not only shows the benefits of a Partnering Agreement but also demonstrates the flexibility of all parties including Manchester Housing, the painting contractor Wilfred Lord, the main contractor Henry Boots Ltd and Johnstone’s – in being willing to trial and introduce new innovative products like the AQUA Gloss system during a contract.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;“Wilfred Lord Painting Contractors Ltd did a superb job and worked with us and Manchester Housing to ensure everyone was pleased with the end result.”&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The products used for the exterior of the properties included Johnstone’s Woodworks Exterior Universal Primer and Opaque Wood Finish, Johnstone’s Professional Undercoat and Gloss, Johnstone’s Stormshield Flexible Primer/Undercoat and Flexible Gloss, Johnstone’s Stormshield Pliolite Based Masonry Finish and Mangers Extra Strong Sterilisation Wash.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Products used for the interior of the products included Mangers Sugar Soap, Knotting Solution and All Purpose Filler, Johnstone’s Performance Coatings Water Based Metal Primer, Johnstone’s Alkali Resisting Primer, Johnstone’s Acrylic Eggshell and Covaplus Matt Emulsion, Johnstone’s AQUA Primer/Undercoat and Johnstone’s AQUA Gloss.&lt;/p&gt;</data>

        <data alias="Content">&lt;p class="intro"&gt;A day centre which has been serving the needs of elderly residents of an Oxfordshire village for almost a quarter of a century is leading the way when it comes to hygiene after being refurbished using a revolutionary new anti-bacterial paint.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Mill Stream Day Centre in Benson, Oxfordshire has recently undergone a refurbishment of its entire ground floor areas using Johnstone&amp;rsquo;s new Microbarr Anti-Bacterial Coatings. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;John Flower who has been a professional painting and decorating contractor for more than 30 years became aware of the paint when visiting his local Johnstone&amp;rsquo;s Leyland Decorating Centre.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The initial contract specified anti-bacterial paint for the kitchen and toilet areas, but John Flower was so impressed with the paint, he decided to use it throughout the centre.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;ldquo;I had used Dulux products for a long time, but was converted to Johnstone&amp;rsquo;s after visiting the Johnstone&amp;rsquo;s Leyland Decorating Centre in Cowley. I was immediately impressed by the Johnstone&amp;rsquo;s range and when I heard about its new Microbarr coatings I felt this would be an ideal product for the Mill Stream contract,&amp;rdquo; comments John. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;ldquo;It is such an easy to use product and it has a great finish so I felt it would be perfect for the whole centre. The job was incredibly easy and although to everyday users the paint is no different to any other standard paint, we know that it is providing a high level of protection against all sorts of bacteria,&amp;rdquo; he adds.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Ian Leppard, chairman of the Mill Stream Day Centre Trust had heard of Johnstone&amp;rsquo;s Microbarr and with the refurbishment of the centre imminent, agreed that it was the ideal paint for his Trust&amp;rsquo;s busy facility.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;ldquo;The elderly can be particularly vulnerable to a whole host of infections and it is essential that facilities such as ours maintain scrupulous levels of hygiene. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;When I heard about Johnstone&amp;rsquo;s Microbarr I felt it would offer a high level of protection against the spread of infection caused by bacteria and provide a practical solution to enhance our own cleaning regimes.&amp;rdquo;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Kelly Quarmby, Brand Manager for Johnstone&amp;rsquo;s believes the Mill Stream contract is an illustration of the versatility of Johnstone&amp;rsquo;s Microbarr.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;ldquo;Mill Stream is the type of facility that is ideal for this innovative product.         <data alias="Content">&lt;p class="intro"&gt;Sheffield City Hall has recently undergone major refurbishment and has been restored to its former glory with the help of Johnstone’s paints and the skills of Doncaster based painting contractors, J Ibbotson Ltd.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;City Hall is one of Sheffield’s most historical buildings and provided a complex project that required special care and attention.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The trustees at Sheffield City Hall wanted the building to be lovingly and painstakingly restored so that the interior encapsulated the original colour schemes from when it was built in the 1930s. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;J Ibbotson Ltd of Doncaster, were selected by the main contractor, HBG, to carry out the redecoration works and Ibbotson’s immediately chose to use Johnstone’s paint for the project because they have relied on the quality of this brand for many years.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Colour consultant Nigel Salter, from Johnstone’s Technical Advisory Department, spent some considerable time on site and conducted a detailed examination of the building before any decision was made on the most suitable products for the job.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Nigel assessed the condition of the existing painted surfaces and those in need of painting.  He took samples and scrapings from each of the rooms to allow him to produce schemes to match the colours which were originally used. A number of considerations were taken into account such as the level of durability required and the client’s specific requirements. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Months of research was carried out before any work began on the refurbishment – which cost a total of over £12 million. The technical advisory team also took samples and scrapings from each of the rooms not only to match the original colour schemes but also to determine the original finishes.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Archives were studied in detail to establish the original décor. The walls had been painted several times over the years so it was essential to strip down the layers.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Johnstone’s specification team provided a complete specification report based upon their observations on site. The specification included details of how the surfaces should be prepared, the recommended coatings to use, how they should be applied and in what specific conditions.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Ibbotson’s started work on the project in September 2004 and work was completed in October 2005 – with up to 18 decorators working on the project each day.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Angela Walker, Administration Director at J Ibbotson Ltd, said it was essential to treat the project with care and attention to detail.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;“We were advised that the paint work needed to be lovingly restored to its’ original glory so months of research went into getting exactly the right colours for the job.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;“We have worked with Sigma Kalon for many years so we automatically chose Johnstone’s products to carry out the work.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;“In the Arches Bar for example, we have incorporated silver Yorkshire Rose motifs to the columns because we looked back in the archives and found out that this was what it would have looked like,” adds Angela.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Each of the roses has been hand-painted on the columns – giving the area a completely unique feel.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Angela says that they used Johnstone’s new Acrylic Matt for the first time in this project and they were delighted with the results.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;“Because of the age of the building – the walls were not in a perfect condition so we were looking for a product which would be able to hide some of the imperfections. The architect who planned the whole refurb was absolutely delighted with the Acrylic Matt – the coverage and the finish was really good,” she adds.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Other Johnstone’s products which were used in the massive refurb project included Acrylic Primer Undercoat, Wood Primer, Professional Gloss and Undercoat and Acrylic Matt for the walls in the corridors.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;J Ibbotson also had to clean the huge dome ceiling before any of the paintwork was carried out.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The colours were matched to the original interior and were mixed especially for the project using Johnstone’s unique colour matching facility.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Andrew Trickett, area sales representative for SigmaKalon, says that both Johnstone’s and J Ibbotson were all extremely proud of the end result.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;“This renovation project took a large amount of research from our Technical Advisory Department to ensure we matched the colours from when it was first built in the 1930s&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;“We have an excellent customer relationship with J Ibbotson and we were pleased that they decided to work with us on the project because they knew they could rely on both our products and the service we offer,” he adds.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Sheffield City Hall is currently home to 400 events per year and features a classic style concert hall, art deco ballroom and memorial hall.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;For more information on any of the Johnstone’s products or service telephone the Sigma Kalon head office on 01924 354000.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt; &lt;/p&gt;</data>

        <data alias="Content">&lt;p class="intro"&gt;An historic Liverpool landmark has been stunningly restored thanks to a decorating firm which consulted architects, conservation officers, sub contractors and suppliers to ensure the project was a success.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Roy Hankinson Ltd used 60 tradesmen and six apprentices to carry out the refurbishment and redecoration of St Georges Hall which first opened its doors to the public in 1854.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The meticulous and detailed redecoration by Roy Hankinson Ltd won the dedicated team the Refurbishment Category of the Johnstone’s Painter of the Year Award 2006.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Mike Murtagh from Roy Hankinson Ltd, said: “This project was fantastic to work on. Due the age of the building we had to replace the traditional lead based paints due to health and safety issues. We consulted with the architect and conservation officers and specified Johnstone’s as they could offer more environmentally friendly and safer finishes. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;“The conservation specialists worked quickly and came to the site to perform paint scrapings to uncover the original colours used. The outcome of the scrapings revealed four different original colours.  Then it was over to Johnstone’s to perform the tinting process,” he added.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Working closely with Johnstone’s Technical Advisory Department throughout the project ensured that the colour proposal and finishes put forward satisfied both the architects and conservation officers.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Tony Walker, Technical Specification Manager commented: “We were involved in the specification process from the beginning and continued to monitor the progress throughout the refurbishment.”&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Architect, Robert Chambers from Purcell Miller Tritton LLP, said: “Originally a lead based product was specified to keep in line with the grade one listed building but after discussing with all relevant parties a modern equivalent was sourced. Johnstone’s Flat Oil Paint ticked all the boxes for this specific project.” he added.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;Many traditional painting techniques were used on the project by the team of skilled tradesmen who spent many months applying finishes, such as faux granite effect, including trompe l’oeil horizontal joints and red porphyry as a border on the walls in the East and West staircases.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Similar techniques were also used in the North entrance hall along with stencilling of the ceiling panels, graining and gilding as the original 1850s scheme was carefully crafted and re-established to the building’s original heritage.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Clare Winter, Specification Marketing Manager at Johnstone’s, said: “The close working relationship Hankinson’s formed with the Johnstone’s Technical Team throughout the project ensured that the colour proposal and finishes put forward satisfied all parties.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;“Roy Hankinson Ltd was recognised in the awards following the company’s planning, project management and the high level of decorating skills used by their tradesmen. They’ve all contributed to the stunning redecoration and complete transformation of this historical Liverpool landmark,” she added.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;After winning the Refurbishment Category for its work on St George’s Hall, Liverpool, Roy Hankinson Ltd was also named the Supreme Winner, and the ‘People’s Choice’ winner by the guests present at the awards. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Commenting on the company’s success in the awards, Stephen Hankinson of Roy Hankinson Ltd, said: “In receiving these three awards I would like to give special credit to David Thelwell who headed the team of specialist decorators and for the meticulous attention to detail on the special effect painting techniques that were painstakingly worked on throughout the project. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;“St George’s Hall was a very important piece of work for our company. We needed to ensure that this important Liverpool landmark that housed many historical features was not only completed to impeccable standards, but was sensitively restored in keeping with its’ unique heritage.”&lt;/p&gt;</data>

      <data alias="Content">&lt;p class="intro"&gt;Recognition at the Johnstone&amp;rsquo;s Painter of the Year competition represents the ultimate accolade in the profession for any decorating company. This year&amp;rsquo;s event was extra special as we celebrated the events 25th anniversary. The competition culminated in an awards ceremony at the luxurious Grove Hotel, Chandlers Cross, Hertfordshire on 29th March 2008. The work of 16 finalists was showcased during the evening&amp;rsquo;s presentation.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Each finalist was carefully selected following visits from technical representatives of the national judging panel to every one of the entrants who used either Johnstone&amp;rsquo;s or Leyland paints to complete a contract in 2007. Each job was carefully reviewed to assess the quality of the decorative finish, the intricacy of the work involved and the technical and logistical challenges presented by the project. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Following the assessment of all the entries, the judging panel consisting of members from the Faculty of Decoration had the difficult task of deciding the winners in each of the four main categories &amp;ndash; Residential, Commercial, Refurbishment and Special Interest. From these, the overall Johnstone&amp;rsquo;s 2007 Painter of the Year &amp;lsquo;Supreme Winner&amp;rsquo; was selected.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;In addition to the kudos and publicity attached to winning this prestigious competition, the Supreme Winner also won a brand new van, fully sign written!&amp;nbsp; We would like to thank Northern Commercials for kindly donating this year&amp;rsquo;s van.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;This year&amp;rsquo;s event started with a golf tournament on the Grove&amp;rsquo;s golf course, where the 2006 World Golf Championships (American Express Championship) was hosted. After the round golfing attire was swapped for black tie in readiness for the evening&amp;rsquo;s festivities and the announcement of the winners was eagerly anticipated. The evening was comp&amp;egrave;red by Jon Hammond and the awards were presented by PPG Architectural Coatings EMEA Managing Director, Greg Molyneux.         <data alias="Content">&lt;p&gt;Mackay Decorators (Perth)&lt;br /&gt;Main Street, East Calder&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;MacKay Decorators (Perth), entered this year with the work they carried out at 82 Main Street, East Calder.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Following an earlier water leak occurring from a room above, substantial damage was caused to period decorations in the lounge and study of the property. Original cornices, decorative friezes, panels and mouldings were damaged requiring extensive repair. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Trompe L&amp;rsquo;Oeil, meaning &amp;lsquo;trick of the eye&amp;rsquo; was used to create a stunning stone block wall effect. Eight coats of Flat Oil Paint were used to complete the intricate shaded effects. The straight line effect has all been painted freehand using straight edges and lining fitches. Doors and lower panels were figure grained to give a very realistic oak effect. A hand painted Greek Key acts as a beam over an opening, marrying the adjoining rooms together. Materials used on this project included Johnstone&amp;rsquo;s Flat Oil, Undercoat, Gloss, various Johnstone&amp;rsquo;s Woodworks Varnishes and gold leaf.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Many skills have been required to restore these rooms, whilst incorporating numerous paint effects.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;</data>

        <data alias="Content">&lt;p&gt;Dunningham Decorators&lt;br /&gt;Northumbria University Eastern Campus, Newcastle&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Dunningham Decorators make a welcome return with their entry for the work carried out at Northumbria University, Eastern Campus in Newcastle.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;This campus is the biggest building complex to be built in the north east in the last decade. The external design of the new building complements the Newcastle skyline with its unique curved exterior.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;It was estimated that the time constraints and completion date of six months could be met by Dunningham Decorators Ltd with 16 &amp;ndash; 17 painters. However, half way through the programme there was a fire in the building causing over &amp;pound;200,000 of damage. A plan was put into place with military precision and labour was to be increased to over 25 painters. It was all hands on deck in the following week bringing in up 40 painters in total to complete the remaining areas in order to get the project finished on time.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The newly finished Law and Business building has a light and airy, spacious feel, with an impressive central atrium. Selected walls have been picked out in subtle blues and jade helping to break up a&amp;nbsp;vast and spacious, modern building.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;</data>

        <data alias="Content">&lt;p&gt;Bernard Watson Decorators&lt;br /&gt;Sodality Chapel, Stonyhurst College, Clitheroe &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Bernard Watson Decorators, entered this years Painter of the Year with the work they carried out at Sodality Chapel, Stonyhurst College, Clitheroe.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Sodality Chapel is located within the grounds of Stonyhurst College. Stonyhurst has a distinguished history, founded in 1593 and the building is now grade 1 listed. The Chapel is still used as a place of worship and often used to hold services and blessings and processions and a fundamental building in the estate.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The restoration work to be undertaken inside the chapel was extensive, with the first job to remove all the pews to leave an empty shell. The stained glass was removed to be completely restored. In doing so it revealed severe cracking in the stone mullions, resulting in some of the stone having to be replaced. Decorative stonework around the windows were also painted, along with the fine artwork to the chapel ceiling was carefully cleaned and restored where necessary. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This project was demanding, especially as the ceiling had to be restored considerately as the decorative panels date back to over four centuries. &lt;/p&gt;</data>

        <data alias="Content">&lt;p&gt;J Ibbotson Ltd&lt;br /&gt;Royal Hall, Harrogate&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;J Ibbotson Ltd entered the refurbishment work they carried out on The Royal Hall, Harrogate.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Formerly known as the &amp;lsquo;Kursaal&amp;rsquo;, The Royal Hall was designed by Frank Matcham and his architect Robert Beale.&amp;nbsp;It was built in 1903 to be used as a multi-purpose entertainment space. In recent years the building had fallen into disrepair and at one point was considered for demolition. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The building had to undergo some serious structural repairs, before the internal restoration process could begin. The auditorium, which was plainly painted in shades of pink, is now a glittering &amp;lsquo;Palace of gold&amp;rsquo;, enhanced with fine art murals.&amp;nbsp; Intricate, delicate ornate gilding was used on the auditorium ceiling and boxes using gold leaf. Eight murals in total were reproduced, using archive photographs and an art nouveau stencil design, again painstakingly researched to match the original, was produced for use on the vaulted ceiling.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;At any one time during the project there have been up to 19 decorators applying around the Hall. The array of Johnstone&amp;rsquo;s products used during this project was vast and in total over 3500 litres were used including; Stormshield Flexible Undercoat, Gloss and Smooth Masonry, Covaplus, Joncryl, Eggshell, Acrylic Eggshell and Professional Undercoat and Gloss.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Upon entering the fully restored main hall and ambulatory the sheer scale, grandeur and intricate detail of the decoration work is breathtaking. The finished work is a testimony to the skill, dedication and patience of all involved on the project. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;</data>

      <data alias="Content">&lt;p&gt;The Johnstone&amp;rsquo;s Young Painter of the Year Awards is an opportuntiy to showcase young talent, reward best practice and encourage young&amp;nbsp;people to enter the professional painting and decorating industry. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The competition is open to students working as apprentises in local employment and undertaking&amp;nbsp;an NVQ level 2 painting course or equivalent.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The initiative is run in conjunction with the Association of Painting Craft Teachers.
