Ceramic Coated Exhausts & Headers: Recent Projects
At Performance Coatings, part of Maldon Shotblasting & Powder Coating Ltd in Heybridge, Essex, we ceramic coat exhaust headers, manifolds, full exhaust systems and tail pipes for cars and motorcycles. Below is a selection of recent exhaust and header projects from our workshop, showing how each one was prepared and coated, and what the finish does for the parts.
For full details of the service, finishes and pricing, see our Ceramic Coated Exhausts page.
How we ceramic coat an exhaust
- Blast cleaning: every part is blast cleaned back to clean, bare metal so the coating bonds properly.
- Optional plasma base coat: for extra long-term protection, our plasma coat system lays down a pure metal base over the blasted surface before the ceramic is applied.
- High-temperature ceramic coat: the parts are finished in a Cerakote high-temperature ceramic coating in the colour and finish of your choice.
- Outside as standard: we coat the outside of exhaust pipes as standard. If you would like the inside coated too, just let us know when you send your parts in.
Recent projects
Full exhaust system in Glacier Black
This full exhaust system was finished in Glacier Black high-temperature ceramic coating. The coating is designed to withstand extreme temperatures and helps reduce heat retention within the system, giving a tough, corrosion-resistant finish with a clean, understated look from end to end.
Cerakote exhaust to cut heat on a side panel
A customer had heat from the exhaust affecting the engine side panel. We finished the exhaust in Cerakote to reduce the heat radiating from it, and the customer reported back to say how well it had worked.
Plasma base and silver ceramic for extra long-term protection
After blast cleaning, this exhaust was given our plasma coat system, laying down a pure metal base that goes a long way to protecting an exhaust for many years. A further ceramic coat in base silver was then applied, rated at over 1,000°C.
Headers and exhaust systems in batches
We regularly coat headers and complete exhaust systems in batches, in finishes from satin black to gold. Our satin and semi-gloss black exhaust finish is rated to 870°C, making it a popular choice for headers and manifolds that run hot.
Cerakote ceramic coated tail pipes
Tail pipes are on show, so they need to look good as well as last. These were finished in Cerakote ceramic for protection and a smart, even finish.
Why ceramic coat your exhaust?
- Less radiated heat: ceramic coating acts as a thermal barrier, keeping heat inside the exhaust and helping keep the engine bay and nearby parts cooler.
- Corrosion protection: a properly prepared and cured coating protects the metal from rust and corrosion.
- A durable, good-looking finish: a wide range of colours and finishes, from satin black to silver and gold.
